Elmhurst 75, Carthage 68
ELMHURST - The Carthage women's basketball traveled to Illinois to compete against the Elmhurst Bluejays on Wednesday evening. The Firebirds battled hard the entire came, but a strong fourth quarter lifted the Bluejays to victory.



Emma Carlson got the Firebirds on the board first with a layup to jump ahead 2-0, before back-to-back three pointers from Marianna Morrissey and Elena Knebel extended the Firebirds lead to 8-2 with 7:20 to play in the opening quarter. A 10-3 run for the Bluejays late in the period gave the Bluejays a 21-20 lead to end the quarter.

Malia Green started the second quarter with a layup for the Firebirds to jump ahead to 22-21. An 8-2 Bluejays run boosted the home team out to a 31-26 lead with 4:48 to go. A 9-3 run for the Firebirds brought the score back to 35-34 in favor of the Firebirds. The two teams hit the half with a 37-37 tie. 

The Bluejays opened the third quarter with an 8-0 run to jump out to a 45-37 lead. The Firebirds used a 9-0 run of their own to take a 50-47 lead with 2:54 left in the third quarter. The Firebirds took a 53-52 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Bluejays outscored the Firebirds 21-13 in the fourth quarter to earn the 75-68 victory.


 

• Morrissey led the way with 27 points, and nine rebounds.
• Carlson finished with nine points and 11 rebounds.
