KENOSHA — The Carthage College men's basketball team mounted a late surge but came up short in a 62-59 loss to Wisconsin–Platteville on Tuesday night inside Tarble Arena.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Wis.-Platteville 62 – Carthage 59
  • Location: Tarble Arena – Kenosha, Wis.
  • Records: Wis.-Platteville 6-2, Carthage 4-4
How it Happened
  • Both teams fought hard for the advantage throughout the first half, with a free throw from Ryan Johnson putting Carthage ahead 12-5.
  • However, the Pioneers quickly recovered, taking a lead of 23-21 with a layup as they closed out the half with an 11-5 run.
  • Carrying this momentum into the second half, Wisconsin-Platteville expanded their lead to 19 with 10:31 left in the game.
  • The Firebirds responded with their best stretch of the night midway through the second half, fueled by three-point shots from Nesbitt and Riley Brooks, along with active rebounding from Jabe Haith and Chris Schlesinger
  • Antuan Nesbitt continued to attack the basket, helping to narrow the deficit to just one possession in the closing minutes.
  • After the Pioneers missed a crucial free throw that could have sealed the game, Carthage had one last opportunity to force overtime, but was unable to get a shot off in time.
