Carthage 66, St. Norbert 63
KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage women's basketball team hosted the St. Norbert Green Knights in Tarble Arena on Tuesday evening. After a strong offensive start for the Firebirds, the Green Knights found a way to rally back and keep the game close, before the Firebirds secured a one-possession victory.



Delaney Elsmore opened the scoring for the Firebirds with a three. St. Norbert responded with a pair of layups before the Firebirds offense took flight on a 10-0 run to push the lead to 13-4 with 4:47 to play in the quarter. St Norbert rallied back on a 7-0 run to end the first quarter 20-15. The Firebirds shot 50% from beyond the arc, with Alyssa Orozco going 2/3 in the period. 

Carthage controlled the second quarter outscoring St. Norbert 19-6. The threes continued to fall for the Firebirds as Whitney Thompson hit a triple to open up the scoring, while Nora Ahram would also have a pair in the period. Carthage had a commanding 39-21 lead heading into the half. 

St. Norbert would open the scoring with a layup made by Marnie Kahl. Carthage responded with a three from Thompson. St. Norbert started to heat up as they went on a 10-2 run. This would be interrupted by a Thompson three. St. Norbert continued on their hot streak and went on another 8-3 run to end the half, outshooting the Firebirds 25-13 in the quarter. Despite the run, the Firebirds held a 52-46 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Taylor Thiry opened the fourth quarter with a hook shot to continue the Green Knight's momentum. The Firebirds responded with  a 7-0 run to build the lead to 59-48 with 6:43 to play. St. Norbert rallied back to go on a 12-3 run and cut the Carthage lead to two with less than 30 seconds remaining. Ahram knocked down four clutch free throws as the Firebirds came away with the win 66-63.
