NECC Week Six Recap – Rainbow Six Siege (3-3) vs. Buena Vista (6-0) [Division IV - West Central B]
Score: Buena Vista 2, Carthage 0
After a tremendous 2-0 victory over GVSU Club White in Week Five, Carthage R6 knew they were in for a huge Week Six test. The test was against Division IV – West Central B's leading team, Buena Vista Beavers. For what it's worth, the Beavers entered with a lengthy regular-season undefeated streak. They have not lost since March 12, 2024, against Ottawa University (Kansas) during the Spring 2024 Division V Rainbow Six season.
The Firebirds aimed to give Buena Vista a challenge, but fell 2-0. The team's roster includes sophomore captain Samuel Bergamo (Scorp), sophomore Chris Vallee (Typhoon), sophomore Major Andrews (AirMajor), junior Rey Trejo (Paltry), and junior Jalyn Green (Astro).
Rainbow Six Siege Explanation: Rainbow Six Siege is a five-versus-five tactical shooter where teams alternate between attacking and defending bomb sites. Rounds can be won either by planting/defusing the bomb or eliminating the opposing team. Success relies heavily on precise gunplay, environmental destruction, and coordinated teamwork.
Map One (Skyscraper / 7-2 Loss): For the first time this season, Carthage played on the Skyscraper map. Skyscraper is often described as a map connecting two separate structures - a house and a restaurant linked by hallways. This map emphasizes vertical gameplay and offers numerous windows that lead directly to balconies, allowing for a mix of close-quarters combat inside and long-range sightlines outside.
On defense, Carthage won two rounds, while allowing four to go towards Buena Vista. This 4-2 half showcased the Firebirds' ability to keep things close against the Beavers. However, Buena Vista's attacks emphasized droning, gaining a man advantage, and isolating Carthage to break apart defenses. On attack, the Firebirds struggled to win a single round, leading to Buena Vista's 7-2 victory.
In Round Seven, Buena Vista player Soul recorded a quad kill and helped the Beavers ignite their defensive hot streak. In Round Eight, the Beavers overwhelmed Carthage by using the operator Clash as a distraction act while defending the second-floor Exhibition Room and Office bomb sites. Carthage's last gasp came in Round Nine while trying to enter the first-floor Bedroom and Bathroom bomb sites. The Firebirds were unsuccessful in their attempt after being slowed down by traps and Buena Vista's powerful roam clearers.
Map One Highlight: Although Carthage fell victim to an onslaught, there was a bright spot early on. In Round Five, the Firebirds were tasked to defend the second-floor Karaoke and Tea Room bomb sites. Vallee drew first blood, while Bergamo was picked in second-floor Geisha by Buena Vista player, Soul. Next, Vallee would take out Soul and be eliminated by Buena Vista player, Farming. While that happened, Trejo launched a C4 from first-floor restaurant underneath the Tea Room floorboards to deny a plant from Buena Vista player, Vedishmine. Hectic then took out Green, making it a two-versus-two situation. From the exposed floorboards above the first-floor bar, Trejo denied another plant, this time flushing out Hectic. It was a two-versus-one situation, where Andrews held Karaoke down and won the round for Carthage as Farming was spotted in Geisha.
Map Two (Border / 7-2 Loss): For the second time in Fall 2025, the Firebirds found themselves on Border. This is a map characterized by its numerous soft, destructible walls and floors. It encourages vertical gameplay, requiring defenders to be on high alert for flanks and attacks from above or below.
After a rough outing on Skyscraper, Carthage brought a spirited fight in the first half on Border. On defense, the Firebirds were down 4-2 at the half. Once again, Buena Vista brought the heat on attack.
In the early stages, Carthage kept pace, leading 2-1 at one point and almost jumped out to a 3-1 lead. However, Trejo would enter second-floor Armory Lockers and lose a one-versus-one post-plant situation to Farming. After this, Buena Vista won the next two rounds on attack to force a 4-2 half, showcasing their ability to drone out and roam clear Carthage efficiently. When the Firebirds swapped to attack, they dropped three straight rounds after the Beavers forced them to delay attacks and, therefore, work with little time.
Map Two Highlight: Like Map One, it wasn't all dominance from Buena Vista. A bright spot for Carthage came in Round Three. While defending the first-floor Bathroom and Tellers bomb site, Andrews secured an elimination to give his team an early man advantage. While a chaotic four-versus-four was happening around the map, Vedishmire planted in Bathroom. Bergamo, Green, and Trejo combined to make it a four-versus-one situation. Green had more than enough time to defuse as a kiba barrier thrown by Vallee prevented Buena Vista player, GuysPlace, from dropping down the hatch above Bathroom.
Across both maps for Kills-Deaths-Assists, Carthage R6's players finished with the following statistics:
Trejo (16-15-2), Andrews (11-16-1), Green (9-14-3), Bergamo (8-14-5), and Vallee (6-16-3). As a result of this loss, Carthage R6 remains in fourth place for Division IV – West Central B with a 3-3 overall and a 6-6 map record.

NECC Week Six Recap – Rocket League Black (5-0) vs. Wayne State College Wildcats (4-1) [Division IV – Midwest A]
Score: Carthage Black 4, Wayne State 0
In Week Six, Carthage Black continued their hot streak after sweeping Wayne State College 4-0 in a rescheduled off-stream, best-of-seven series on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 4:30 pm CST. Despite the day and time change, the Firebirds were locked in and motivated to add to their campaign. This 5-0 overall record, complemented with a 20-0 game record, leads Division IV – Midwest A. Not only is Carthage in first place, but they also earned a valuable head-to-head victory over Wayne State. Carthage Black consists of junior captain Penn Gilchrist (Pixlr), junior Lucas Menzer (Joyystik), and senior Tanner Lee (Flare).
To begin, Carthage Black ushered an onslaught of forced shots on net in Game One. The result was a 5-0 victory with Menzer recording three goals on nine shots. Gilchrist and Lee both recorded a goal each and combined for 10 shots on net (six and four, respectively). In total, the Firebirds stockpiled 19 total shots on Wayne State's net, overwhelming the opposition and taking control of the series right away. For what it's worth, the Wildcats only forced five shots on Carthage's net.
Game Two was a 5-1 victory for Carthage Black. Once again, the team found ways to make Wayne State uncomfortable on offense and defense. Menzer topped out with three goals on five shots, Lee had two goals on two shots, and Gilchrist recorded four assists – illustrating his presence as an integral playmaker. Although Game Three was only decided 2-0, it demonstrated that no matter the score, Carthage Black can play excellent defense while holding a lead. Menzer secured the lone Game Three goals on three shots. Gilchrist did a nice job of complementing Menzer with two assists. Lee contributed on the defensive end with two saves.
After letting Carthage Black get three dominant wins, Wayne State adjusted in Game Four. The Wildcats forced Carthage to go the distance. About 11 seconds into Game Four, Gilchrist found the net and gave the Firebirds a 1-0 cushion. About three and a half minutes later, Wayne State player AmazingCheeto tied the game 1-1. Less than a minute later, Gilchrist scored to put Carthage back in front. About 15 seconds later, Wayne State player TD scored an overtime-forcing goal, making the score 2-2. Within 29 seconds of overtime, Gilchrist clutched up and secured the winning goal to keep Carthage Black's undefeated game record alive.
Carthage Black dominated in these major categories: Goals (15-3), Assists (13-3), Shots (46-17), and Demos (18-11). Menzer led the way with eight goals, two assists, five saves, 19 shots, and four demos. Gilchrist followed with four goals, seven assists, four saves, 16 shots, and 10 demos. Lastly, Lee finished with three goals, four assists, three saves, 11 shots, and four demos.
Player Comments [Lucas Menzer]: "Wayne State was by far the best competition we've had all season. Having not dropped a single game all season, the team and I are pushing our way through these final two weeks of the regular season with two goals in mind – to remain undefeated and succeed in dropping zero games throughout the regular season. As a team, we played well, and although we stepped off the gas in Game Four, we secured the 4-0 win and kept our hopes of an undefeated season alive going into our final match next week."

NECC Week Six Recap – Rocket League White (3-2) vs. Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats (5-0) [Division IV – Midwest B]
Score: Indiana Wesleyan 4, Carthage White 0
On Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 6:00 pm CST, Carthage White, including senior captain TJ Buchmann (Blase), sophomore Kaliek Wade (Akko), and freshman Jimmy Prims (ItsSlurp17 aka ThePrimReaper), battled Indiana Wesleyan University in an off-stream, best-of-seven series. The Firebirds suffered an unfortunate 4-0 loss and dropped to 3-2. This comes after a Week Four series win (4-1) against ISU White and a Week Five bye. As a result of this loss, Carthage White is ranked third in Division IV – Midwest B with a 3-2 overall and 12-11 game record.
In Game One, the Firebirds suffered a 4-2 loss. Carthage White started with a 1-0 lead by Buchmann. However, Wesleyan jumped out to a 2-1 lead thanks to Dry and Farriex scoring. Wade then tied the game 2-2. Unfortunately, the Firebirds could not stop Wesleyan's offense and allowed Dry and Farriex to each score another goal, prompting a 4-2 win. Despite this, Carthage White fought hard to stay in it. Buchmann and Wade recorded one goal each, and Prims had one assist and a save.
Game Two was a frustrating 1-0 loss for the Firebirds. About two and a half minutes into the game, Indiana Wesleyan player Farriex scored. Afterwards, Carthage White struggled to force a tie as they only forced six total shots on net.
In Game Three, the Firebirds were defeated 3-2 after Indiana Wesleyan took control with a 3-0 lead at one point. Within the first minute, Indiana Wesleyan scored the first goal. After that, they scored two more goals in the latter stages of Game Three. Carthage White tried their best to conjure up a comeback as Wade and Prims scored two goals near the end of Game Three. However, Indiana Wesleyan played well enough on defense to prevent overtime. The Firebirds forced nine shots to Wesleyan's six.
Game Four was Carthage White's last chance to pull things back. However, Indiana Wesleyan won 4-3 after dominating the early stages. At one point, Wesleyan led 3-0 thanks to two goals from Twizt and one from Dry. In response, Wade assisted Prims for Carthage White's first goal. Next, Buchmann assisted Wade's goal to pull the Firebirds within one goal. However, the momentum was taken away as Farriex got himself on the board, extending the lead 4-2. Once again, Wesleyan demonstrated its ability to shut out Carthage White late in a game. Despite their best efforts, Carthage White mustered one more goal to make it 4-3, courtesy of Prims.
Carthage RL White was defeated in these major categories: Goals (12-7), Assists (9-6), and Shots (34-27). A positive is that the Firebirds led in Demos (12-8), which contributed to their ability to hang in there across the series. Wade finished with three goals, three assists, three saves, seven shots, and four demos. Prims followed with three goals, two assists, three saves, 12 shots, and three demos. Buchmann logged one goal, one assist, six saves, eight shots, and five demos.
Player Comments [Jimmy Prims]: "Going into the match, we knew it was going to be tough because they were the No. 1 seed. We didn't play badly, but we just weren't used to their playstyle, which is why all the games ended up being one-goal losses. It was good to face them because it gave us something specific to work on."
