Talamantez Headlines Carthage’s Seven All-CCIW Football Selections

NAPERVILLE — Seven student-athletes from the Carthage College football program earned All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin honors, marking the team's second-highest total since 2018 and the most under second-year head coach Matt Popino.

Freshman defensive back Mariano Talamantez was voted the CCIW First-Year Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year, becoming the first in program history to receive the award. From Racine, Wis., Talamantez also secured a spot on the All-CCIW Second Team Defense after recording 54 tackles and three interceptions. He posted a season-high 11 tackles against North Central (Ill.) on September 20.

Senior defensive end Michael Sneed earned All-CCIW First Team Defense, his second straight all-league selection. Sneed, from New Lenox, Ill., finished the year with 37 tackles, including a season-high eight against WashU on October 11. He added three sacks and 13 quarterback hurries.

On offense, senior running back Bryce Frank was named to the All-CCIW Second Team. Frank, from Marshall, Wis., totaled 633 rushing yards, highlighted by a 163-yard performance in the season opener against Lakeland, just a yard shy of his career mark. He also produced a season-long 68-yard run and ranked third in the conference in rushing. Frank added 10 receptions for 93 yards.

Defensive standouts Jeremy Rowlett, Ramon Campos, and Briton Stanton joined Talamantez on the All-CCIW Second Team Defense.

Rowlett, a senior defensive lineman from Chicago, Ill., registered 44 tackles, including eight against WashU on October 11. His season totals also included one and one-half sacks, three fumble recoveries, and nine quarterback hurries.

Campos, a junior linebacker from Marshall, Wis., contributed 51 tackles, two and one-half sacks, one forced fumble, one interception, 13 quarterback hurries, and two pass breakups.

Stanton, a junior from Gilbert, Ariz., led the Carthage defense with 74 tackles, finishing ninth in the conference. He logged a season-best 13 tackles, including seven solo stops, against Augustana (Ill.) and added two sacks during the year.

Senior running back Mark Hunter was selected as Carthage's CCIW RESPECT Award recipient. Hunter, from Lake Villa, Ill., rushed for 523 yards, including a season- and career-best 113 yards on 17 carries against Elmhurst. His longest run of the season, a 39-yarder, came against North Park on November 1. Hunter also caught 12 passes for 98 yards, highlighted by a 27-yard reception against Elmhurst.

Each varsity program honors one student-athlete annually with the RESPECT Award, which recognizes individuals who embody Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Service, Pride, Excellence, Collaboration, and Trust while fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.
