KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage women's basketball team kicked off the 2025-26 home schedule on Saturday afternoon with a game against the Edgewood Eagles in Tarble Arena. It was a strong showing for the Firebirds, who ran away with an impressive 40 point victory.



The Firebirds got on the scoreboard first with a pair of free throws from Alyssa Orozco, and quickly followed with a pair of three-point baskets from Nora Ahram and Whitney Thompson to give the squad an 8-0 lead to open the ballgame. The Eagles ended the run with a pair of layups from Laci Lindsey, but the Firebirds answered back with Malia Green going on a seven-point scoring run to extend the lead to 15-4. The two teams traded baskets over the final four minutes of the opening quarter, with the Firebirds holding a 24-14 lead to end the quarter. Green led the Firebirds with nine points in the quarter.

Green kept the scoring going into the second quarter, starting things off for the Firebirds with a three-pointer. Thompson hit another three on the next possession, giving the Firebirds a 30-14 lead just 33 seconds into the quarter. The offense continued to shine throughout the quarter, extending the first half lead to 50-24 as the two teams headed into the mid game break. Winters led the team through the second quarter with six points in the period. Green led the team in the first half with 14 points.

Orozco started the second half with a layup to extend the lead even further before Orozco and Ahram made three consecutive threes to bring the Firebirds up to a 33 point advantage with 6:45 to play in the third quarter. The Eagles would battle back late in the quarter, cutting the deficit to 29 with the Firebirds leading 68-39 heading into the final period. Orozco led the way with eight points in the quarter.

The Firebirds cruised through the quarter and were fueled by scoring from Orozco, Green, Ahram, Mary Titzer, Lisa Colin, and Brooke Baechtold who led the team with six points in the quarter.

The Firebirds (2-1) return to action on Friday, Nov. 21 at the Hope Tournament as the squad faces off against Hope at 7 p.m. EST in Holland, Mich.
