WHEATON - The Carthage women's swimming & diving team turned in a series of standout performances this weekend as the Firebirds faced off against Wheaton in a competitive two-day dual meet. Behind strong efforts on the boards, major point production in distance events, and key relay performances, Carthage showcased its depth and resilience against the Thunder.
Wheaton 189.50, Carthage 142.50
On the boards, Kendall Leistico dominated the 3-Meter with a winning score of 180.05, then backed it up with another victory on the 1-Meter at 163.45, giving Carthage a perfect sweep on the boards.
In the pool, Brie Skalski headlined the distance unit with a trio of powerful performances. Skalski placed second in the 500 Freestyle (5:26.01), earned second in the 400 IM (4:54.93), and capped her weekend with a strong win in the 1000 Freestyle (11:11.22).
Emily Belcik brought energy to the pool, posting a pair of runner-up finishes in the 50 Free (25.37) and 100 Free (56.47). Her closing speed also boosted the Firebirds' relay efforts, where Carthage claimed second in the 400 Medley Relay with
Mikella Mesina,
Noelle Marsh,
Lois Klinger, and Belcik combining for a 4:14.41 finish.
Jill Kane made a major impact in the breaststroke, taking second in the 100 Breast (1:12.31) and surging to a victory in the 200 Breast (2:37.62).
Lyndsey Hackman also produced key points, finishing second in the 200 IM (2:19.41) and third in the 400 IM (5:01.02) while contributing to multiple relays.
