Carthage Stifles Millikin in 24-7 Home Victory

KENOSHA — The Carthage College football team returned to the win column with a 24-7 victory over Millikin on Saturday afternoon at Art Keller Field.

How it Happened
  • Carthage got on the board late in the first quarter when Mugdim Kreho converted a 22-yard field goal to make it 3-0.
  • After a scoreless second quarter, the Firebirds extended their lead midway through the third when Easton Heafner connected with Collin Durian on a 24-yard touchdown strike, pushing the margin to 10-0.
  • Millikin briefly closed the gap on the next drive, as the visitors intercepted a pass and returned it 56 yards for a touchdown, trimming the lead to 10-7.
  • The Firebirds immediately responded on their next possession as Heafner found Jackson Westmoreland in the end zone for a 21-yard score to stretch the advantage to 17-7.
  • Carthage put the game away early in the fourth quarter when Westmoreland hauled in his second touchdown of the day, this time an 11-yard reception, capping a 12-play, 63-yard drive to make it 24-7.

High Flyers
  • Easton Heafner finished 18-for-31 passing for 218 yards and three touchdowns.
  • Jackson Westmoreland caught three passes for 48 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Collin Durian led all receivers with 78 yards and a touchdown on five catches.
  • Mark Hunter carried 18 times for 53 yards, while Bryce Frank added 73 yards on 19 attempts.
  • Koen Abreu and Idarius Walton each made five tackles to lead the defense.
  • Mariano Talamantez snagged his first career interception, while Matthew Burnette and Michael Sneed each recorded a sack.
  • Carthage outgained Millikin 349-85 in total offense, holding the Big Blue to just seven first downs. 
  • The Firebirds controlled possession for more than 40 minutes and converted six of 14 third downs in the win.
