WEC Week Four Recap – Rocket League Red (1-1) vs. WCTC Owls White (1-2)
Score: Carthage Red 3, WCTC White 1
After a great win against the UW-Stout Blue Devils, Carthage RL Red was eager to start going on a run over the next few weeks. The team includes senior captain Alex Vaile (Vaile), freshman Owen Perry (Kor), and freshman Kyle Branski (xray). With high momentum, the Firebirds aimed to secure back-to-back victories after a Week Two bye. In Week Four, they capitalized on the moment and defeated Waukesha County Technical College [WCTC] Owls White 3-1 in an off-stream, best-of-five series.
Game One was a nail-biting 3-2 victory for the Firebirds, a tone-setting game that included Branski scoring two goals on seven shots with an assist and two saves. Vaile followed with a goal and an assist for both of Branski's goals. Perry recorded two saves but led the team with three demos. WCTC White had to save the ball 11 times thanks to Carthage's pressure-filled 15 shots on net. Game Two prompted a 2-1 finish after the Firebirds kept control of the score. They only had to save the ball twice, while securing 12 shots on net to WCTC White's eight. Branski and Perry scored on four shots apiece, while Vaile tacked on an assist.
In Game Three, WCTC White clawed out a 4-3 victory to extend the series. The Owls went 50% from the field – four goals on eight shots. Although Carthage wanted to demo, WCTC White was able to work past it with precise shooting. Despite the loss, Perry tacked on two goals on two shots, Branski recorded one goal, and Vaile added two assists and two saves. Game Four saw Carthage snatch any momentum WCTC White gained from Game Three. A 3-2 series-clinching win that included a whopping 14 shots on net performance from the Firebirds. The Owls could only muster five shots on net. To end the series, Perry scored two goals, Vaile notched one with two assists, and Branski added one assist.
Carthage Red led in these major categories: Goals (11-9), Assists (10-7), Shots (49-24), and Demos (18-10). Another factor contributing to their victory was that WCTC White had to save the ball 31 times throughout the series. In total, Perry accumulated five goals, no assists, seven saves, 15 shots, and four demos. Branski followed with four goals, three assists, three saves, 19 shots, and five demos. Lastly, Vaile accumulated two goals, seven assists, three saves, 15 shots, and nine demos.
Player Comments (Alex Vaile): "Overall, I felt that we played decently. Definitely were a bit off on our rotations and teamplay, but we trust ourselves and are always confident we can pull a win out, no matter how we are playing. WCTC White is an excellent team, and they proved that by keeping every game within a goal. We are feeling much better after our recent LAN this weekend and already feel like we have improved our teamplay drastically from that match."

WEC Week Four Recap – Rocket League JV [Black] (3-0) vs. WCTC Owls Blue (2-0)
Score: WCTC Blue 3, Carthage JV 1
After a great win over UW-Madison (0-3), Carthage JV [Black] aimed to iron out the minor flaws in preparation for WCTC Owls Blue, the school's top team. Carthage JV [Black] includes junior captain Penn Gilchrist (Pixlr), junior Lucas Menzer (Joyystik), and senior Tanner Lee (Flare). On Monday, Oct. 6, the Firebirds were stunned 3-1 by WCTC Owls Blue in an off-stream, best-of-five series.
Game One was a feisty 2-1 contest in which WCTC Blue outshot the Firebirds 11-9. The Owls were also potent on defense, saving the ball six times. Menzer scored Carthage's lone goal on three shots. In Game Two, WCTC Blue took another 2-1 win after holding Carthage back from scoring more than one goal. Menzer scored the Firebirds' only goal once again on three shots. The Owls found the net twice on five shots.
Game Three prompted Carthage to give WCTC Blue a taste of defeat, winning 2-1. The Firebirds put up 11 shots, enough to force WCTC Blue to save the ball seven times. Gilchrist and Lee both notched a goal each. For Game Four, WCTC would put an end to Carthage's comeback. The Owls dominated with 17 shots on net to the Firebirds' nine. Despite the noticeable shot disparity, Gilchrist and Lee both scored goals in a 5-2 loss.
Carthage Black were outscored in these major categories: Goals (10-6), Assists (9-5), and Shots (39-34). Lee secured two goals, one assist, four saves, seven shots, and four demos. Gilchrist followed with two goals, two assists, seven saves, 13 shots, and six demos. Lastly, Menzer finished with two goals, two assists, three saves, 14 shots, and 12 demos.
Player Comments (Tanner Lee): "Considering they [WCTC Blue] were using a sub for arguably their best player, we should have pushed that team farther. In tandem with that, though, we do not get reps against teams of that caliber often, if at all. Seeing my team take a game and keep the other ones close helped light a fire for us to keep grinding individually and showed us that all we need to do is show up one time. I believe we can punch up and pull off some upsets come regional and state."

Score: UW-Eau Claire 3, Carthage Club 0
Entering Week Four, Carthage RL Club [Grey] remained motivated to find themselves in the win column. Against undefeated Eau Claire, that goal would be hard to achieve as the team lost a close 3-0 series.
The team includes sophomore captain Timothy Fendrick (Hvstl), junior Joshua Martin (RacingDevilz), and junior Andrew Czysz Jr (TurbidJuggler).
Game One was a 7-1 loss headlined by the Blugolds' ability to generate constant pressure toward the Firebirds. Although the team tried to fight back, Eau Claire had already gained momentum. Game Two was a much closer contest. A 2-1 loss was suffered after coming up short in the offensive game. Czysz scored the lone goal on two shots while Fendrick and Martin added two saves each. Game Three featured another close loss, 3-2, against the Blugolds.
Player Comments (Andrew Czysz Jr): "With a full week of practice, we felt a sense of improvement as a team. However, we still need to find a way to get ahead earlier in these best-of-five series. Despite a 0-4 record, we take each loss as an opportunity to identify what needs to be worked on. I know our team has the determination to fight. We just need to put it together throughout a match."
