WHEATON — The Carthage College men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Wheaton (Ill.) on Wednesday night at Joe Bean Stadium.

• Wheaton (Ill.) struck early, finding the back of the net in the fifth minute when Luke Vander Kolk capitalized on a give-and-go play for what would prove to be the only goal of the match.
• The Firebirds regrouped defensively after the early setback, holding the Thunder scoreless the rest of the way.

• Goalkeeper Aaron The kept Carthage within reach, recording four saves across both halves, including three in the second frame.
• Carthage tallied 12 total shots and seven on goal, testing Wheaton's keeper throughout the night. Juan Ramirez and Adrian Atanassov each led the Firebirds with two shots, while Dennis Valle, Bram Wolkenfelt, and Lincoln Ponce each added one shot on goal.

"The boys gave a spirited and full effort tonight, and with a luckier bounce here or there, we could have gotten a nice reward.  Now we need the consistency to take that performance and carry it straight into Saturday's game."
