Firebirds Earn Eighth Sweep of Season With Win Over Kalamazoo

Carthage 3, Kalamazoo 0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-16)
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Carthage women's volleyball team wrapped up their weekend roadtrip with a sweep over the Kalamazoo Hornets inside Anderson Athletic Center. The Firebirds controlled the match from start to finish, hitting .257 as a team while holding the Hornets to just .036.

Carthage established the tone early, using a balanced attack to take the opening set 25-16. Kristina Manojlovic led the charge with six kills in the frame, while setter Ava Dettwiler kept the offense in rhythm with 11 assists. The Firebirds built an 18-11 lead and never looked back, closing out the set behind back-to-back kills from Manojlovic.

The Firebirds stayed sharp in the second, opening with consecutive kills from Manojlovic and Madilyn Danielson. Tatum Kebisek added a service ace as part of a 6-1 run midway through the set, and Carthage finished strong with a 25-18 win to take a 2-0 lead.

Carthage wasted no time sealing the sweep, jumping out to a 7-2 advantage in the third and keeping Kalamazoo off balance with strong serving. Dettwiler added two aces in the frame, and the Firebirds' front line—anchored by Katie Boston and Danielson—combined for five team blocks to close the door, 25-16.

"Nice win on the road today at Kalamazoo," said Head Coach Leanne Ulmer. "We have been struggling with some players not feeling well so we adjusted the lineups and the team responded well. Tina [Manojlovic] had a very strong all-around match today.  Madi [Danielson] was clutch as well. Jenna Damon passed well and was strong defensively.  It was a very good team win.  Slow week next week so the goal is to get healthy and make a strong push through the last third of the regular season!"

The Firebirds (15-8, 1-2 CCIW) return to action on Saturday, Oct. 18 against Greenville at 1 p.m. and Wis-Whitewater at 3 p.m. at the Wis-Whitewater Triangular in Whitewater, Wis. Carthage women's volleyball returns to Tarble Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 22 as the Firebirds host Wheaton (Ill.) at 7 p.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
