Firebirds Deal No. 5 Juniata First Loss of the Season as Kieckhefer Earns 100th Career Win

KENOSHA — The No. 8 Carthage College men's volleyball team returned home to Tarble Arena to kick off the Frogjump Invite, defeating the No. 5 Juniata Eagles, earning Coach JW Kieckhefer his 100th career win.

  • Ryan Cholewinski and Owen Otto came in with back-to-back kills to give Carthage a two-point lead early into the first set.
  • A massive block from Hendricks continued the Firebirds' lead, 8-4.
  • After a service ace from Hudson Sweitzer, Carthage gained a five-point lead, their largest of the set.
  • Ruben Emmerich continued the Firebirds' margin with a kill, followed by a Juniata attack error to keep the Firebirds up five, 18-13.
  • The Firebirds held their lead throughout the first set, holding the Eagles within a five-point deficit, taking the first set 25-20.
  • Juniata came in fighting, succeeding with a two-point lead early into the second set.
  • Hendricks retaliated with three consecutive kills to tie the score at seven.
  • The two teams traded blows, holding even on the scoreboard throughout the set.
  • After a service error tied the set, 21-21, kills from Otto and Ben Heise led the Firebirds into the lead, ultimately taking the set 25-22 with a final kill from Otto.
