Reilly Inks Deal With USL's Portland Hearts of Pine Soccer Club

PORTLAND - Carthage men's soccer standout Mickey Reilly has signed a contract with the Portland Hearts of Pine Soccer Club, the club announced Friday.

The Portland Hearts of Pine Soccer Club is an expansion team in the United Soccer League that will join the USL League One in 2025. The club is based out of Portland, Maine and was first announced in September 2023.

Reilly, a 2024 Carthage graduate from Libertyville, Ill., is the all-time leading scorer for the Carthage men's soccer program with 48 goals and 126 points. Reilly finished his five season career with the Firebirds with 30 assists, 11 game winning goals, and totaled 6,255 minutes of play. Reilly was a four-time All-CCIW First Team recipient, earning the honor in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Reilly also earned All-Region honors from United Soccer Coaches in those four seasons. He was named Wisconsin Player of the Year twice.

"My time at Carthage was truly unforgettable," said Reilly. "From the moment I stepped onto campus, it felt like home. Watching both my older brothers play soccer there when I was just 10 years old left a lasting impression on me, and it was where my own Carthage journey began when I earned my first Carthage soccer award ever at 13 years old, getting Carthage Soccer Camp MVP in 2014.

The friendships I've built and the teammates I've shared the field with have become lifelong connections that I'll always cherish. Some of the greatest moments of my life happened at Carthage, and I'm forever grateful to my coaches for pushing me to grow as a player and as a person. The support from the staff, athletic trainers, and resources was exceptional, and it gave me the foundation to pursue my dream of becoming a professional soccer player.

Since I was a little kid, I've wanted to play soccer at the highest level, and achieving that goal is a dream come true. I'm excited to continue working hard at the professional level and striving to get better every day. Representing Division III athletes and showing that anything is possible if you believe in yourself is an honor I'm incredibly proud of."

"I am overjoyed for Mickey and his family," commented Carthage men's soccer Head Coach Paul Leese. "This is the culmination of many years of hard work and dedication, and he has thoroughly earned this opportunity.  Mickey is committed to improving his game and I have no doubt he will grow and excel in the professional environment.  I will miss his energy and personality here at Carthage, but he knows that I, along with all his teammates, will be following his career with tremendous pride."

The Portland Hearts of Pines 2025 schedule begins on March 29 against FC Naples at Paradise Coast Sports Complex in Naples, Fla. For more information, visit
