PLYMOUTH — The Carthage College women's wrestling team returned to the mat on Sunday to compete in the Lakeland Scramble #2 hosted by Lakeland University. It was a strong outing for the Firebirds, who came away with two individual championships and a third place finish as a team.

Karina Torres and Kirsten Cortez did not compete in the opening round. Cortez fell in the second round to Savanna Millemon (Wis-Stevens Point) (Fall 1:43). Torres then defeated Millermon with a 1:19 fall to claim first place and score 12 points for the Firebirds. Cortez finished third and scored seven points.

Natalie Majer started the day with a win by tech fall (10-0) over Kylie Hessenius (Iowa Lakes CC). In round two, Majer earned a victory by fall over Makayla Matson (Upper Iowa) at 1:00. Majer cruised through the next two rounds, defeating Gisele Gallegos (Augsburg) (Fall 2:01) and Alex Carty (Iowa Lakes CC) (Fall 0:30). Majer then claimed first place in the division with a win by fall over Anika Stearns (Iowa Lakes CC) after just 24 seconds. She scored 19.5 points for the Firebirds.

Alaina Hollendoner opened with a win by tech fall (12-1) over Stevy Griffin (Iowa Lakes CC) before falling to Angelica Torres Lima (Wis-Stevens Point) by an 8-6 decision. Hollendoner l=placed second and earned 9.5 points for the team.

Madison Cook began the day with a win over Metadel Edwards (Wis-Stevens Point) with a fall at 5:43. Cook then fell in the second round to Olivia Hovey (Lakeland) with a 6-3 decision. Cook bounced back in the third round with a win by fall over Holly Garrett (Iowa Lakes CC) (2:38). Cook fell to Isabel Jues (Iowa Lakes CC) with a 7-2 decision before falling to Hannah Wigern (Augsburg) in the third place match (Fall 1:15). Cook finished fourth with 10 team points.

Nadia Flores won by fall over Aleka London (Augsburg) (Fall 0:35) and then defeated Riley Weiler (Iowa Lakes CC) with a 16-6 tech fall. Flores fell to Elliana Balderrama (Joliet JC) by injury default. Flores finished second and scored 11.5 points.
Jennifer Villagomez fell in the opening round to Weiler (Fall 2:03). Villagomez bounced back with a win over London (Fall 1:53) before falling to Balderama with a 12-0 tech fall. Villagomez finished fourth with 8.0 points.

Izzee Nelson-Carrillo dropped the first round bout to Madison Horn (Augsburg) with a 10-0 tech fall. Nelson-Carrillo then fell to Taylor Schultz (Wis-Stevens Point) with a fall at 0:22. Keyahna Phillips (Iowa Lakes CC) defeated Nelson-Carrillo with a fall at 1:01. Al Ghala Al Radi (Lakeland) ended Nelson-Carrillo's day with a fall at 1:06.
