Women's Volleyball Takes on UChicago in Home Opener

KENOSHA — The Carthage College women's volleyball squad fell to UChicago in the non-conference home opener 3-0 on Wednesday evening inside Tarble Arena.   

The Basics
  • Final score: UChicago 3 - Carthage 0 (25-21, 29-27, 25-22) 
  • Location: Kenosha, Wisconsin - Tarble Arena
  • Records: UChicago 5-0, Carthage 3-1 
How it Happened
  • Carthage held a narrow two-point lead in the first set after a kill by Kristina Manojlovic.
  • Following an ace from Manojlovic, UChicago responded with a six-point run to take a 16-10 lead.
  • The Firebirds fought back and briefly regained the lead with a kill from Ava Dettwiler, but the Maroons finished the set on a 5-1 run to secure the win.
  • In the second set, both teams traded points until consecutive kills by Liv Carel, and a block from Katie Boston gave Carthage a 20-18 advantage.
  • Carthage reached the set point after two errors by UChicago, but the Maroons answered with two kills to tie the score at 24.
  • Manojlovic added a kill, but UChicago clinched the set with three straight points, winning 29-27.
  • The third set remained tightly contested, with Cassidy Stahl's ace tying the score at nine.
  • Despite UChicago maintaining a slim one-point lead, Carthage battled back with key kills from Carel and Manojlovic and capitalized on an attack error to go up 18-17.
  • A kill from Manojlovic extended the lead to 21-18, but UChicago closed the match on a 7-1 run to win 25-22.

High Flyers
  • Kristina Manojlovic again led the Firebirds in kills with nine, closely followed by Liv Carel, who added eight. 
  • Tatum Kebisek and Devinn Bell recorded double-digit assists, with Kebisek tallying 11 and Bell recording 10. 
  • Bell also posted 12 digs, while Katie Boston led all players with a match-high six total blocks.
