KANSASVILLE - The Carthage College men's golf team added another first place finish shooting a combined 566 (291+275) over the two day tournament.
Leading the way, Tanner Angelstad was the individual champion carding 137 over two rounds with scores of 69 and 68. Close behind, Alex Lilly finished in second, posting an exceptional second-round score of 65 to finish with 138.
James Trachsel and Cody Schmidt both turned in solid performances, each finishing with a total score of 146 to tie for 25th place. Trachsel recorded rounds of 74 and 72, while Schmidt improved on his first-round score with a 71 in the final round. Nick Barry rounded out the main team's efforts, tying for 58th place with 149 after shooting 78 and 71.
Carthage's "B" team also showed strong results, led by Tayt Hager, who tied for 25th place with a total of 146, improving from a 76 in the first round to a 70 in the second. James Tyrrell followed with a total of 150 to tie for 74th place. Brett Vandergrift (154, tied for 113th), Ethan Frasch (156, tied for 130th), and Jack Crispo (158, tied for 151st) rounded out the "B" team's contributions.

"With 44 teams from across the Midwest, this is easily the biggest tournament we compete in, and to go win it by 9 strokes is truly a testament to how well we played. 13 under par today, with Alex shooting 65 and Tanner firing a 68, is what you typically see in the teams ranked in the top 10 nationally. It was so fun to watch because they were just so comfortable. Both were just playing within their skill level, and a few more putts went in this time. They have worked so hard over their four years, and nowadays, this honestly doesn't surprise me. It wasn't a fluke - they have that level of skill. It was just as satisfying to see Tayt go shoot 70, Cody and Nick shoot 71, and James shoot 72. Our depth is our true strength, and how we push each other to keep improving or get out of the way can take us to the next level."

Carthage will compete next at the Wisconsin-Stout Invite which takes place September 29-30 at The Highlands Golf Course at Grand Geneva.
