HARTFORD  - The Carthage College men's golf team had a strong showing at the WLC Fall Invitational, finishing first with a total score of 587 (+11), narrowly defeating Lake Forest, which posted a 591 (+15). The victory was their first win of the fall season. 


Leading the way for Carthage were Tanner Angelstad, Tayt Hager, and Cody Schmidt, who all tied for 3rd place individually with an even-par total of 144. James Trachsel and Nick Barry also contributed with scores of 149 (+5) and 150 (+6), respectively, rounding out a solid team performance that secured the victory.


"Winning "Back to Back" championships in any tournament is always special, especially a highly competitive tournament on a great course.

Over the two days, each of the five guys took turns leading us, and our 6th man, Tayt Hager, competed as an individual and led the tournament after Day 1.

After Day 1, even though we had played solid, I think the guys knew they left some strokes on the course, and I think we brought a bit different confidence with us to the course today, Day 2. On our first nine today, with that confidence, we got really hot, and we went from being tied to a 14-stroke lead. At that point, the wind spiked, we made a few big numbers, got a bit nervous, and then had to regroup to make sure we finished smartly, which we did. Really a great team win, and I love how competitive we were in each of our top six guys. That depth is huge."
