JANESVILLE - Carthage College's golf teams performed strongly at the Culver's Edgewood College Fall Classic, held at Glen Erin Golf Club in Janesville, Wis., on Aug. 30-31. The Firebirds' top squad finished third place overall, showcasing impressive individual efforts throughout the tournament.
Alex Lilly led the way for Carthage, securing fourth place with a total score of 143, combining rounds of 73 and 70. Close behind, Tanner Angelstad tied for fifth place with a score of 144, following rounds of 76 and 68. Nick Barry concluded tied for thirty-fifth place with a score of 151, posting rounds of 76 and 75. James Tyrrell and Brett Vandergrift also contributed, finishing tied for forty-third and sixty-fourth places, respectively.
In addition to the top team's performance, Carthage's second squad placed twelfth overall. Tayt Hager and Cody Schmidt tied for fiftieth place with scores of 154. Ethan Frasch tied for fifty-fourth place with a score of 155, while Elliot Leibham and Jack Crispo rounded out the second team's efforts with finishes tied for sixty-eighth and seventy-second places, respectively.

"That is an excellent tournament with a deep field on a fun but challenging golf course. To see Cody come out as a freshman and shoot even par on day one of his first college tournament was impressive. Tanner shoots three under 68, and Alex shoots 70, the only two scores under par on day two in the tournament of 120 guys. I think those two seniors wanted to make a statement after a very average first day. It was also great to see Ethan shoot his career-best score. It was obvious how much work he put in this summer, so it was great to see that it had already started to pay off. Overall, I think we showed that we have some strong leaders and a mix of veterans and young talent. Finishing third in that tournament, although not meeting our goal of first place, we should still be very proud of how we played."
