Firebirds Fall to Maroons in CCIW Championship Game

Chicago, Ill. - The Carthage women's lacrosse team faced off against the Chicago Maroons on Saturday evening in the CCIW Championship game. It was a tough night for the Firebirds, who saw the Maroons jump out to a big lead early and never look back.

Quarter 1

The Maroons jumped out to a 1-0 lead just over a minute into the game.
August Claridge evened the score with a goal less than a minute later.
A 4-0 run over the next 11 minutes would give the Maroons a 5-1 lead.
Kyleigh Higgins cut into the deficit with her first goal of the night with 1:39 left in the quarter.
The Maroons would tack on one more, ending the period with a 6-2 lead.

Quarter 2:

The Maroons went on a 10-0 run in the second quarter, extending their halftime lead to 16-2.

Quarter 3:

The Maroons started the second half with four more goals, bringing the score to 20-2.
Higgins ended the scoring drought with her second goal of the night with five minutes to play in the third quarter.
Another goal for the Maroons would send the game into the fourth quarter with Chicago holding a 21-3 lead.

Quarter 4:

The two teams traded goals throughout the quarter, with the Maroons out-scoring the Firebirds 3-2 in the period.
Higgins and Claridge each scored a goal.
