Firebirds Celebrate Senior Night, Fall Against McKendree

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage women's water polo team celebrated senior night and hosted McKendree on Saturday, the Firebirds fell 17-5 against the Bearcats. 

The Basics​
  • Final score: McKendree 17  - Carthage 5 
  • Location: Kenosha, Wis. - Koenitzer Aquatic Center
How it Happened​
  • The Firebirds struggled throughout the first period, and entered the second period behind 4-0. 
  • Victoria Hodges kicked off the offensive effort for the Firebirds, adding a goal in the seventh minute of the second period, 5-1
  • Hodges added another goal in the third minute of the period, and the Firebirds closed out the first half down 7-2.
  • After a quick score from Mckendre to start the third, Yamila Areizaga found the net in the Yamila Areizaga minute of the period, 8-3. 
  • The Firebirds built on the momentum and Yamila Areizaga scored again in the fourth minute of the third period, 9-4.
  • Grace Steinberg closed out the offensive effort for the Firebirds with a final score in the last minute of the third period, 10-5. 
  • Mckendree found the net twice in the final seconds, and the Firebirds trailed 12-5 to start the final period.
  • The Firebirds went scoreless in the final period, and finished 17-5 against McKendree.
