Firebirds Fight Hard But Unable to Overcome Albion's Strong Start

ALBION, Mich.  — On Saturday, the Carthage College men's lacrosse team suffered a slim 19-12 defeat at the hands of Albion on the road. 

The Basics
  • Final score: Albion 19 - Carthage 12
  • Location: Albion, Michigan - Alumni Field
  • Records: Albion 2-8, Carthage 6-5

How it Happened 
 
  • Albion scored two goals early in the first quarter before George Burchfield's goal at the 9:17 mark got the Firebirds on the board. 
  • Four goals from the Brittons widened the gap to 6-1 with 10:23 left in the second. 
  • Alec Gern netted his first goal of the game cutting the lead to four.
  • Albion closed out the quarter with five-straight goals taking an 11-2 margin into halftime. 
  • Carthage started the third with back-to-back goals from Andrew Frey and Ian Edwards
  • Later, goals from Edwards and Ben Krok cut the margin to six. 
  • Both teams traded goals as the score raised to 15-9 heading to the final quarter of play. 
  • After the Brittons struck first, two goals from the duo of George Mobraaten and Rocco Paddack cut the lead to five with 9:41 remaining. 
  • Albion responded by outscoring Carthage 3-1 to win.
