Firebirds Stifle Stars in Five

KENOSHA, Wis. — The No. 13 Carthage College men's volleyball team defeated No. 14 Dominican (Ill.) in five sets 3-2 on Thursday night.

How it Happened
  • Carthage maintained a 9-6 lead in the initial set until the Stars equalized at nine. 
  • Dominican (Ill.) orchestrated a 9-4 surge, including a decisive kill, pushing the score to 18-13. 
  • Carthage staged a comeback, narrowing the gap to one with an ace from Drew Jansen
  • Ultimately, the visitors clinched the first set with a 25-22 victory. 
  • The second set commenced with Carthage's 7-0 run, highlighted by consecutive kills from Ryan Cholewinski
  • Despite Dominican (Ill.) closing in, an 8-2 run, capped off with a kill from Owen Otto, established a 17-12 lead. 
  • Despite a late ace from the Stars bringing it to 24-18, a final kill from Grant Veldman secured the set at 25-18. 
  • In the third set, kills from Jansen and Veldman propelled Carthage to a 10-7 advantage.

  • Kills from Cholewinski and Ben Heise expanded the advantage to 11-9. 
  • Carthage sealed the match with a 4-1 run, securing a 15-10 victory.
