Firebirds Hold Off Vikings' Comeback, Secure Spot in CCIW Semifinals Against Elmhurst

KENOSHA, Wis. - In the first round of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament, the Carthage College men's basketball team defeated Augustana (Ill.) 64-60.

How it Happened
  • Julian Campbell came in hot with a three-pointer to start the night off for Carthage. 
  • Colton Siegel quickly eliminated Augustana's margin with a three-pointer to lead 15-11. 
  • The Firebirds kept the heat going with a 10-point run soon after to keep the advantage, leaving the score 25-13. 
  • Augustana tried to lessen the deficit with a 6-4 run, but Carthage held the lead going into the second half, 29-19. 
  • Campbell came back ready with a layup and a jumper, leading Carthage on a fourteen-point advantage, leaving the score 33-19. 
  • Augustana used a 9-2 run, but it was ended with a layup from Campbell. 
  • The Vikings were able to get within one from a pair of free throws. 
  • The intensity grew as the clock wound down, with both teams trading baskets back and forth for most of the game.
  • Augustana was able to tie the game 55-55 with 3:47 left in the game. 
  • Carthage gained the upper hand again after a jumper from Bulatovic gave the Firebirds a four-point margin. 
  • Augustana battled to get ahead with two free throws to lessen the disparity of 62-60. 
  • Carthage returned with a pair of free throws from AJ Williams to match the Vikings, winning the game 64-60 and advancing the Firebirds in the CCIW Tournament.
