Men’s Basketball Collects Eighth-Straight Home Win Against Elmhurst

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage College men's basketball team picked up their eighth-straight home victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Elmhurst 80-72. 

The Basics
  • Final score: Carthage 80 - Elmhurst 72
  • Location: Kenosha, Wisconsin - Tarble Arena
  • Records: Carthage 14-5 (8-2 CCIW), Elmhurst 16-4 (8-3 CCIW) 
How it Happened
  • Back-to-back three-pointers from Antuan Nesbitt started the Firebirds off for a quick 6-0 run a minute into the game. 
  • After a tough battle back-and-forth between teams, a three from Elmhurst tied the score 14.  
  • A pair of jumpers from Nesbitt and one from Fillip Bulatovic pulled the Firebirds over into the lead for a 23-18 score. 
  • The Bluejays managed to tie the score twice more before Carthage gained the lead with a jumper from Ryan Johnson, ending the first half 37-35. 
  • Both teams battled to gain the upper hand for most of the second half until a hook shot from Anthony Bernero gave the Firebirds a six-point lead at 13:25 for a 48-42 score.
  • Elmhurst managed to get within four points with six minutes left before a dunk from Sophomore Griffin Daun brought Carthage up 65-59 with five minutes left.
  • Despite Elmhurst's attempt to gain the lead, Carthage won the game 80-72. 

High Flyers
  • Ryan Johnson collected his second double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds for Carthage on the day. 
  • Senior Fillip Bulatovic grabbed 10 defensive rebounds while adding 19 points and four assists. 
  • Antuan Nesbitt totaled 13 points and four assists for Carthage, with AJ Williams adding 10 and five rebounds.
