AURORA, Ill. — The Carthage College women's wrestling team opened the 2024 portion of the season on the road against the Aurora Spartans. It was a tough day for the Firebirds, who came away with some strong individual performances, but ultimately fell to the Spartans 37-7.


Karina Torres kicked things off at 101 pounds for the Firebirds, coming up short as she was defeated by Genesis Ramirez with a Fall at 1:56. Natalie Majer continued her strong junior season with a 12-2 Tech Fall in 2:30 over Mia Moore at 109 pounds. The Spartans earned a forfeit at 116 pounds, and there was a double forfeit at 123 pounds. At 130 pounds, Nadia Flores defeated Bethany Regione with a 12-10 Decision. However, the Firebirds victories would come to an end there, as Jennifer Villagomez would be defeated at 136 pounds by Fall at 1:11 to Natasha Markoutsis, and Basil Kiracofe would suffer a Fall to Mackenzie Konanz at 170 pounds. The Spartans would take forfeit victories at 143, 155 and 191.


The Firebirds return to action on Saturday, Jan. 13 as Carthage is set to compete at the Lakeland Scramble #2. Action is set to begin at 12:30 p.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
