KENOSHA, Wis.- The Carthage women's soccer team played their home opener at Art Keller Field on Wednesday night as the Beloit Buccaneers came to town. After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Carthage offense found momentum late in the second half and found a way to secure the victory in front of the Firebird faithful.

The two teams played an evenly matched first half, ending the opening period scoreless. The Firebirds found chances for shots early, tallying eight shots with three going on goal. The Buccaneers fired two shots in the opening half with one going on goal for a save by
Ainsley Stallworth.

Both teams got off to a slow start in the second half, with neither side creating momentum in their favor for more than one opportunity at a time. Then the momentum swung towards the Firebirds in the 73
rd minute, as
Olivia Rivera and
Lisa Traxel fired shots off and drawing a corner for the home squad. A few minutes later,
Amelia Price fired a laser past the Buccaneers goalkeeper to break the scoreless tie in the 78
th minute. The Buccaneers would take three shots in the remaining 12 minutes without successfully finding the back of the net, resulting in the Firebirds earning their first shutout win of the season.
