Men's Soccer Drives Past Lake Forest, Secure 6-2 Road Win

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Carthage men's soccer team defeated  Lake Forest (Ill.) 6-2 on the road Tuesday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • As the first half progressed the Firebirds quickly found their stride with a goal from Dennis Valle, assisted by Mickey Reilly, in the 35th minute, gaining the lead 1-0. 
  • The Firebirds solidified their lead heading into half-time with a solo goal behind Jethro Yumange. 
  • Entering the second half, the Firebirds marinated the momentum adding two more goals within the first ten minutes of play. 
  • Aidan Crowder, assisted by Mickey Reilly on both scoring plays, added goals in the 46th and 46th minute, giving the Firebirds a 4-0 lead with 35 minutes left of play. 
  • The Foresters got on the board in the 61st minute, and within three minutes Crowder, assisted by Christian Hinestrosa, extended the Firebirds lead to 5-1. 
  • Crowder's final goal of the night came from a successful penalty kick in the 70th minute. 
  • Despite the Forresters adding another goal in the 85th minute, the Firebirds held on to the lead to win 6-2.

"A strong team performance today. We had to work hard to get the breakthrough, but I am pleased at how well we stuck to the task."
"We have played a lot of games in a short space of time so now we need to recover well and prepare for Sunday."

  • Carthage will take on MSOE on Sunday, September 17 at 3 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis.
