Carthage Overpowered by Carroll at Home

KENOSHA, Wis. - Coming off an impressive 23-7 win over Augustana (Ill.) on Saturday, the Carthage Firebirds women's lacrosse team suffered a disappointing setback against the visiting Carroll Pioneers. The Pios started off strong and never looked back at Art Keller Field, securing a 17-4 win over the Firebirds.

How it Happened
 
  • The Pioneers gained control of the game early on, starting things off on a 5-0 run. Carroll took the 5-0 lead into the second period. 
  • Carroll began the second period on a 3-0 run, starting its run just minutes in. 
  • Rosie Nolan ended Carroll's game-opening 8-0 run with five minutes left in the second half, putting Carthage on the board. 
  • The first half ended with a score of 9-1 in favor of Carroll.
  • Rachel Harris answered an early third period goal from Carroll, netting one to lessen the Firebirds' deficit to eight (10-2). 
  • Piper LeFevre and Elizabeth Oda scored consecutive goals for the Firebirds, bringing Carthage back to within 12-4 to end the third period. 
  • Carroll went on a 5-0 run in the fourth quarter to secure a convincing 17-4 victory. The Pios took 28 more shots than Carthage, also forcing 28 turnovers from the home team. 

High Flyers
 
  • Piper LeFevre scored a goal and led the team in draw controls with seven. 
  • Rachel Harris and Elizabeth Oda each picked up two points in the defeat. Harris also recorded four ground balls and three draw controls. 
  • Shannon Heitschmidt scooped up four ground balls and added an assist this evening.
