Firebirds Wrap Up Sunday Competition in Massachusetts

CAMBRIDGE, Ma.  — The Carthage College women's water polo team concluded their five-game road trip to the east coast Sunday as the Firebirds took on Siena and California State University Northridge. 

The Basics
Game Three
  • Final score: Brown 14 - Carthage 5
  • Location: Providence, Rhode Island 
  • Records: Brown 13-3, Carthage 3-5

Game Four
  • Final score: Siena 25 - Carthage 3
  • Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts
  • Records: Siena 3-7, Carthage 3-6

Game Five
  • Final score: CSUN 14 - Carthage 3
  • Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts
  • Records: CSUN 14-4, Carthage 3-7

How it Happened 
 
  • Abigail Elliott got the Firebirds on the board against Brown during Saturday night's competition. 
  • Yamila Areizaga scored with 7:02 left of the third quarter. 
  • Katlynn LaGrone registered a goal at the 5:13 mark of the third then Sarah Lowery scored with five second left in the quarter. 
  • Alyssa Sayatovic recorded the lone goal for the Firebirds in the fourth as Brown the game 14-5. 
   
  • In the final game of the trip, Bushroe-Stumpf scored for Carthage in the third quarter. 
  • Brenna Carstens doubled the Firebirds score at the 1:05 mark of the third. 
  • Carthage got another goal in the fourth from Sydney Logan
 
High Flyers
  • Morrigan Bushroe-Stumpff a total of six goals during the trip, the freshman currently leads the team in goals with 12 goals.
  • Sarah Lowery had two goals on the day scoring against Brown and Siena. 

Coachs Remarks
"The latter half of this trip was a great opportunity for us to play upper-division teams and test ourselves. Each game presented us with a thousand opportunities to get better and compete. Overall it was a great trip for us. We got five games in 26 hours in three different states against teams we never see, and to grow as a team."
