History

DUBUQUE, Iowa. — The No. 9 Carthage College men's volleyball team started the last week of March with a 3-1 win over Loras.

The home team came out swinging, starting with a 6-3 advantage.
A kill from Mitch Geiger and an attack error for Loras shrank the deficit to one.
The Duhawks pulled away to win the first 25-15.
Carthage turned the tables in the second, going up 14-11 with a combined block from Zach Bulthuis and Ryan Morey.
Drew Jansen connected on a kill for a 17-12 score two points later.
Loras battled back, taking a one-point lead with a block, but Carthage closed out the second with four unanswered points highlighted by a kill from Bulthuis.
In the third, a block from Ryan Cholewinski and Jansen saw Carthage hold a two-point advantage.
Later, a kill and ace from Bulthuis moved the score to 21-19 in favor of the visitors.
David Markes put the Firebirds up two games with a kill.
Loras held a 20-13 score in the fourth until Carthage rattled off a 9-2 run tying the set at 22.
As the Duhawks stood on set point, the Firebirds won the match 26-24.

David Markes had a match and season-best 14 kills, followed closely by Zach Bulthuis with 13.
Markes also had 13 digs on the day, while Jack McDonald and Drew Jansen followed with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
Mitch Geiger added eight kills, while Ryan Morey notched 40 assists in his first start at Carthage.
The victory marked the 15th straight win over Loras for the program.
