Dominant Second Quarter Leads Firebirds to Victory Over St. Norbert

KENOSHA, Wis. - On Saturday, the Carthage women's basketball team defeated the St. Norbert Green Knights 60-50 in a non-conference matchup for their seventh win of the season. 

The Basics
  • Final score: Carthage 60 - St. Norbert 50
  • Location: Kenosha, WI.- Tarble Arena 
  • Records: Carthage 6-4 (CCIW 2-2) - St. Norbert 4-4 ( NACC 2-1)
How it Happened
  • Carthage's Margueret Spear came in hot with a three-pointer fifteen seconds into the first period to get the Firebirds started. 
  • A seven-point run gained the advantage for the Green Knights soon after. 
  • Marianna Morrissey quickly sank the deficit with a three-pointer to tie the score 9-9. 
  • An eleven-point run from Carthage helped keep the lead throughout the second quarter to end the half 31-14. 
  • During the third quarter, St. Norbert responded with an eleven-point run, yet Carthage still held them at a six-point advantage, ending the quarter 38-32.
  • St. Norbert battled to gain the upper hand, but a solid six-point run from Morrissey kept the Firebirds ahead 44-34. 
  • For the remainder of the game, both teams battled for baskets until the Firebird lead ended the game 60-50. 

High Flyers
 
  • Marianna Morrissey led the Firebirds with a career night, scoring 32 points and tallying four steals in the contest. 
  • Addison Ebeling led the Firebirds in both rebounds with nine and blocks with two. 
  • Lauren Knight earned a team-high four assists
