Big Defensive Stop Helps Bring The Old Musket Back to Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage College football team put on an instant classic in their rivalry with Carroll (Wis.) as the Firebirds defeated the Pioneers 30-27 to regain control of the Old Musket trophy. 


The Basics
  • Final score: Carthage 30 - Carroll (Wis.) 27

How it Happened
  • After Carroll (Wis.) put 14 unanswered points on the board, Carthage retaliated as Jackson Westmoreland caught a seven-yard pass for a 14-6 score. 
  • The Pioneers used a 22-yard touchdown pass, extending their lead to 21-6. 
  • Just before the half, Bryce Lowe found Gibson Groves on a six-yard touchdown pass as the Firebirds went into the intermission break trailing 21-12.
  • In the third quarter, a field goal from Eli Schubert made it 21-15. 
  • The visitors used another touchdown pass on the following drive for a 27-15 score. 
  • Bryce Lowe threw his second touchdown pass of the game, finding Bryce Frank on a two-yard pass, shrinking the deficit to five. 
  • The Firebirds took the lead with a 27-yard touchdown pass caught by Jordan Wiles in the fourth. 
  • The defense held strong, forcing a turnover on downs as Chris DiVito made the tackle, Carthage won 30-27. 

High Flyers 
  • For the sixth time in seven games, junior quarterback Bryce Lowe passed for over 200 yards finishing with 222 yards and four touchdowns. 
  • Jordan Wiles caught 11 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown. 
  • Chris DiVito had 14 total tackles while Garrett Warner had seven tackles and a sack. 
  • Isaiah Byrd had a clutch interception for the defense and had three broken up passes.
