Women's Volleyball Falls to Millikin in Four

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage College women's volleyball team competed against Millikin on Wednesday, taking the first set but falling to the Big Blue in four sets, 3-1.

The Basics
  • Final score: Millikin 3, Carthage 1
  •  Location: Kenosha, Wis. - Tarble Arena
  • Records:  Millikin 15-7 (4-1 CCIW), Carthage 11-9 (2-2 CCIW)

How it Happened
  • Early in the first set, the Firebirds went on a four-point run, pushing the Firebird lead to 11-5. The run was highlighted by two kills for Katie Rohe and an ace by Leena Ajibola.
  • Recording 14 kills in the set, Carthage maintained a minimum four-point lead throughout the first; Carthage won the first 25-20.
  • The Firebirds' eighth point of the second set, Liv Carel and Katie Boston, combined block as Carthage got within 10.
  • Millikin held onto the lead for the majority of the set, eventually ending in a victory, 25-13. 
  • Big Blue and the Firebirds traded points back and forth early in the third set until Carthage put together eight unanswered points capped off with back-to-back Millikin attack errors. 
  • Millikin stole the momentum towards the end of the third set and grabbed the win 25-21 with a closing kill.
  • The home team broke out of a drought with a kill by Kristina Manojlovic, followed by a five-point run, including two additional kills and one block, forcing the Big Blue to call a timeout. 
  • Though Carthage got it to a four-point game off a Manojlovic kill, Millikin claimed victory 25-16. 

High Flyers
  • Kinsey Bakhaus acquired 13 kills, breaking 100 kills on the season. 
  • Leena Ajibola grabbed one ace along with six blocks, tying her season-best in assisted blocks.
  • Tatum Kebisek registered 23 assists and an ace in four sets of play. 
  • Jenna Damon had 28 digs, tying her season-best and busting through the 300 digs mark on the season. 
  • Kaitie Rohe and Kristina Manojlovic added nine kills to the Firebirds' effort.

  • Carthage will play next in the Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament. 
  • The Firebirds compete on Friday, October 13th, at 3 p.m. facing tournament-host No. 7 Wisconsin-Whitewater.
