Firebirds Slowed at Home by Elmhurst in CCIW Nail-Biter

KENOSHA, Wis.  — The Carthage College men's basketball team came up just short of collecting a regular season sweep over Elmhurst on Saturday, falling to the Bluejays 70-64. 

The Basics
  • Final score: Elmhurst 70 - Carthage 64
  • Location: Kenosha, Wisconsin - Tarble Arena
  • Records: Elmhurst 12-6 (4-5 CCIW), Carthage 12-5 (5-4 CCIW)

How it Happened 
 
  • Elmhurst went ahead with a quick 8-2 start until a 12-0 run sparked by two layups from Julian Campbell and Antuan Nesbitt made it 14-8 in favor of the home team. 
  • The Bluejays went back ahead by seven with a layup later in half. 
  • Another 15-6 run for the Firebirds closed out the half as Carthage went ahead 32-30 on a dunk from Fillip Bulatovic. 
  • Carthage pushed their lead to six with a jumper from Bulatovic and a layup from AJ Johnson. 
  • Carthage rallied, moving the game to 63-62 with a Bulatovic layup. 
  • The Firebirds kept the margin at three until another layup from Bulatovic made it a one-point score with 24 seconds left. 
  • Following two free throws for the visitors, Carthage had a good look at tying it but could not find the mark as Elmhurst sank their free throws to win the game 70-64.
