Football Opens 2022 Season at Albion

ALBION, Mich. — The Carthage College football team fell to Albion 52-0 on Saturday afternoon to open the season. 

The Basics
 
  • Final score: Albion 52, Carthage 0
  • Location: Albion, Michigan - Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium
  • Records: Albion 1-0, Carthage 0-1

How it Happened
 
  • Albion took their opening drive and took the lead with a three-yard rush for a touchdown making it 7-0 early. 
  • The home team added to their lead with a 19-yard touchdown pass making it 14-0 with 4:53 left in the first quarter. 
  • In the second quarter, the Britons tacked on another touchdown extending the lead to 21-0. Albion headed into halftime up 35-0. 
  • The home team tacked on two touchdowns and a field goal to win the season opener.

High Flyers
  • Sylvere Campbell had four receptions for 83 yards leading the Firebirds in receiving. 
  • Alex Jarvis chipped in with 19 yards receiving. 
  • Sophomore Travis Boston Jr. rushed for 58 yards off 12 attempts. 
  • Defensively, linebacker Chris DiVito led the Firebirds in tackles with 13, five solo.

Coachs Remarks

"Albion is a really good football team," said head coach Dustin Hass. "They started well and we did not respond very well. I felt like we needed to get a touchdown on the board which is why we went for it on fourth and goal. We made a lot of mistakes, we will get them corrected and be ready for our home opener."
