KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's soccer team picked up a 2-1 win over WashU Thursday afternoon at Art Keller Field.

- WashU, ranked No. 20 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 preseason poll, struck first with a goal 20 yards out.
- Eli Schoffstall scored his first goal at Carthage off a free kick to tie it at one. Both teams were locked at one heading to halftime.
- Kevin Reilly scored his seventh career goal as a corner kick found the feet of Reilly, giving Carthage control of the game. Carthage held on to win 2-1.
- Eli Schoffstall led the Firebirds in shots with three, followed by Mickey Reilly with two.
- In goal, Christian Lekki made three saves over 90 minutes played.
- The victory marked the first win for head coach Paul Leese at the helm of the Carthage men's soccer program.
"I'm very proud of the work the boys put in today and throughout the preseason," said head coach
Paul Leese. "We displayed great unity, which helped us get the win against a very good Wash U team. They put us under a lot of pressure, but the boys dug deep and got their reward. It feels great to open up the season with a win at home in front of our fans. Now we can recover and focus on the next game."
