Firebirds Split Sunday Tilt at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Playing in their first games since their trip to Florida, the Carthage College softball team fell to Lake Forest in game one 12-1 before winning the second game 9-1 on Sunday at Mohr Field.

Lake Forest (10-10) got on the board first scoring five in the bottom of the second and four in the third. Carthage (5-7) shrunk the deficit in the fourth with an RBI single from Maddie Conway. The Foresters responded in the bottom of the fourth three runs to win 12-1.

The Firebirds turned the tables in game two scoring four in the first as a two-run single from Kailey Wagner scored a pair then a single from Olivia Capuano allowed Wagner and Rylee Johnson to score. Though the Foresters got one back with a home run, Wagner doubled down the right field line putting the Firebirds back up 5-1. Capuano hit a double which allowed Wagner to cross home plate extending the margin to 6-1. After a lone run for Carthage put them up six, an RBI single from Alaina Azar and a Lake Forest error made it 9-1 sealing the victory for the visitors.
