Softball Splits Senior Day CCIW Action with Wheaton

KENOSHA, Wis. — On Senior Day, the Carthage College softball team won game one 2-0 before falling in the second game 6-1 in their doubleheader against Wheaton (Ill.) Tuesday afternoon at Carthage Softball Field.

The score stayed locked at zero until the fourth inning when Bella Spittler got on base with a single through the left side. Spittler moved up into scoring position off a stolen base and a bunt from Alaina Azar. Spittler then crossed home plate on a Thunder (15-19, 3-11 CCIW) error. Later, an RBI single from Izzy Hernandez extended the Carthage (13-13, 7-5 CCIW) lead to 2-0. In the seventh, a popup and two groundouts gave the Firebirds the victory.

In game two, Carthage jumped ahead first in the fifth with an RBI single up the middle from Spittler allowing Katie Trail to score. Wheaton (Ill.) responded in the bottom half with three runs flipping it to 3-1. The Thunder added three more in the sixth to go on to win 6-1.

Up next, Carthage travels to Carroll (Wis.) on Thursday, April 28 starting at 3 p.m.
