Firebirds Split Home Doubleheader with Augustana

KENOSHA, Wis. — On Friday, the Carthage College softball team split their home tilt against Augustana (Ill.) winning game one 4-3 before falling in the second game 6-2 at Carthage Softball Field. 

Carthage (9-9, 4-2 CCIW) began game one with a 1-0 lead off an RBI double from Izzy Hernandez. The Vikings (16-9, 2-4 CCIW) retaliated in the second with two runs taking control of the game 2-1. Hernandez belted a two-run RBI triple in the third giving the Firebirds a 3-2 lead before Augustana (Ill.) tied it in the sixth. The game remained scoreless until the eighth when a walk-off single from Katie Trail scored Kiley Lamb for the 4-3 win. 

In game two, Augustana (Ill.) scored runs in the first, second, and third innings taking a 6-0 advantage. Alaina Azar got the Firebirds on the board with an RBI single. Though an RBI single from Maddie Conway made it 6-2 in the seventh, the Vikings held on to win with a closing groundout. 

Up next, Carthage travels to North Park on Tuesday, April 19 starting at 3 p.m.

  • Spittler swiped four total bases on the day moving her career total to 48.
