Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Defends Home Turf to Remain Undefeated

KENOSHA, Wis. — After scoring the first goal of the game and holding a lead the remainder of the match, the Carthage men's lacrosse team took down the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Wednesday night 12-5 at Art Keller Field.

Just over five minutes into the action, Andrew Johnson found the back of the net before Alec Gern scored a man-up goal moments later. After the Raiders (1-1) responded with a man-up goal of their own, Johnson would score once again for the Firebirds (4-0), before the two teams traded goals to make it 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. Carthage would score five unanswered in the second quarter, as Johnson, William Clemens, Gern, Andrew Frey and Sam Wallace helped put the home team up 9-2 at halftime.

The visitors were first to strike in the second half, before Clemens scored on an assist from Johnson to make it 10-3 with five minutes left in the third quarter. MSOE added two goals in the fourth quarter, with Gern scoring once more in the final minute of action to help give Carthage the seven-point victory.

The Firebirds are back at home again this weekend, as they host Alma College on Saturday, March 12 at noon.

Head Coach David Neff

"I am happy the guys are off to a four-win start but the CCIW is very good this year and we are going to have to find a way to get both sides playing lacrosse for sixty minutes. Kyle stepped up with Blake out and I thought the defense had a solid night and got back to clearing. We hit a lot of pipes early and Finneran for MSOE was great but we broke through at the end of the half and looked like we had all the momentum, and I thought we would blow things open in the second half. That unfortunately did not happen and we just seemed to go through the motions on offense, ball died in our stick, some uninspired possessions, and no one was cutting the back of the zone. We just need to learn from it and get better, and get ready for Alma."
