No. 3 Men’s Volleyball Shuts Down Titans at Home

KENOSHA, Wis. — The No. 3 Carthage College men's volleyball team picked up their ninth conference win on Wednesday over Illinois Wesleyan 3-0 at Tarble Arena.

Carthage (14-3, 9-0 CCIW) jumped out to a 12-6 margin in the first with a kill from Zach Bulthuis. Later, a kill from David Markes and an ace from Matt Slivinski made it 20-11. Though Illinois Wesleyan (7-13, 2-8 CCIW) got it to 22-12, three straight points for Carthage gave them the set win 25-13.

In the second, the Firebirds held a 13-5 lead off an ace from Andrew Otto and a Titans attack error. After a kill from Matt Slivinski, three-straight attack errors for the visitors made it 19-9. Carthage won the set 25-14.

Daniel Dyner added a kill in the third putting the Firebirds up 7-6 early. Two kills from Carter Schmidt and one from Keegan Brumitt extended the Carthage lead to 17-12. After two unanswered Titan kills, Josiah Flager-Hearan responded with a kill of his own putting the Firebirds up 22-16. Brumitt closed out the match with a kill for the 25-20 victory.

Up next, Carthage hits the road facing No. 4 North Central (Ill.) on Saturday, March 26 starting at 3 p.m.
