No. 9 Men’s Volleyball Adds Non-Conference Win over Aurora 3-1

KENOSHA, Wis. — The No. 9 Carthage College men's volleyball team picked up a 3-1 non-conference over Aurora on Thursday evening at Tarble Arena.

Carthage (2-3) jumped out to an impressive 14-5 margin in the first with a kill from Ryan Cholewinski. After Aurora (1-2) made it 15-7, the Firebirds outscored the visitors 9-1 to go up 24-8. A Spartans service error gave the home team the set win 25-10.

In the second, a kill from Gene McNulty made it 7-2 early. Later, Drew Jansen added an ace which put the Firebirds ahead 12-9 but Aurora climbed back to tie it at 19. With the score locked at 21, back-to-back kills from McNulty and Cholewinski and an ace from David Markes put Carthage in front 24-21 as a final kill from Matt Slivinski won it 25-23.

A Spartans service error in the third made it 10-7 in favor of Carthage. Aurora then used a 10-2 run, flipping the score to 17-12. The Spartans went on to win the set 25-19.

Each team traded point for point in the fourth until a kill from Peyton Wieter and an attack error for the visitors made it a 10-7 score for Carthage. Aurora kept close with the home team tying it at 14 and 21, but three consecutive errors for the Spartans and an ace from Daniel Dyner sealed the victory for Carthage 25-21.

Carthage returns to Tarble Arena on Saturday, February 5, facing UC Santa Cruz at 6:30 p.m.
