ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Carthage College women's water polo team wrapped up their trip at the Macalester Invite with a 12-6 loss to No. 9 Occidental in game one before closing the day with a 17-6 loss to No. 5 Chapman.
In game one, after Occidental got on the board first,
Meghan Fisher tied it at one in the first period with a goal at the 5:43 mark. The Tigers added three more goals going up 4-1.
Kayli Sayatovic scored at the 6:41 mark shrinking the margin to 4-2. Occidental added two more goals going up 6-2, heading to the halftime break. In the third, the Tigers put in two, but Carthage retaliated as
Katlynn LaGrone and
Meghan Fisher scored making it 8-4. During the final period of play,
Alexandra Mears tallied a goal with 4:38 left, and
Dominika Myrda registered another for Carthage, but the Firebirds fell 12-6.
Although Chapman (2-0) got on the board first in game two, two goals from LaGrone and
Sophie Flott flipped the score to 2-1. The Firebirds put in a goal right before halftime from
Taylor Woitesek. Carthage registered two goals in the third period from Sayatovic and Fisher.
Victoria Hodges recorded a goal at the 3:17 mark of the fourth period as Chapman won 17-6. In net,
Gabrielle Pavesich recorded 15 saves during day two.
Next up, the Firebirds take on McKendree in a doubleheader at home on Saturday, February 26 at 2 and 5 p.m.
