Women’s Lacrosse Drops Road Match at DePauw

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College women's lacrosse team fought hard against DePauw on Saturday but fell 11-6 at Reavis Stadium in the season opener.

Carthage (0-1) got on the board first with an unassisted goal from Rachel Harris. DePauw (1-0) responded with two-straight goals. Elizabeth Oda netted two consecutive goals, but the Tigers held a slim 4-3 margin heading into the halftime break.

In the third quarter, the home team scored three goals extending the margin to 7-3. After DePauw added a goal in the fourth quarter, two goals from Rachel Harris made it 8-5. Maddie Berni scored a goal at the 7:52 mark, but the Firebirds fell 11-6.

Next up, Carthage returns home playing Edgewood on Friday, February 25 at 5 p.m.

Head Coach John Sung

"I thought Alessandra Almendarez had a great game, her 10 saves kept us in the game. The third quarter just got away from us. I thought Rachel Harris and Elizabeth Oda showed a lot today, they played really hard for us. Defensively, Sydney Kuyava came up pretty big for us in her first game. We're going to get there, it's just going to take a little bit of time, but I'm very excited about the promise this group has shown. I can't wait to get back on the field and show what Carthage lacrosse is all about."
