PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. — On the final day of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Swimming Championships, the Carthage College men's swim and dive team won the CCIW Championship title after collecting 813.5 points on Saturday at the RecPlex Aquatic Center. 

On the final day, Paul Busse picked up another all-conference win taking second in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:46.66), while Mitchell Mages won the 200-yard breaststroke swimming a time of 2:00.94. 

Mages swam a leg in the 400-yard freestyle relay with swimmers Adam Moskus, Jacob Hardt, and Conner Hwang that clocked a time of 3:04.76.

The CCIW title is the 11th in program history and fifth under head coach Seth Weidmann. Coach Weidmann took home his sixth CCIW Coach of the Year award as the NCAA Championships start on Wednesday, March 16 in Indianapolis, Ind. 

For the second straight year, Carthage senior Mitchell Mages won the Most Valuable Swimming Student-Athlete honor as he won events in the 100-yard breaststroke (54.86), 200-yard freestyle relay (1:22.89), 200-yard IM (CCIW Meet & Open Record - 1:49.90), 200-yard medley relay (1:31.34), 200-yard breaststroke (2:00.94) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:04.76).

Garrett Shuldes was the winner of the RESPECT Award for Carthage. At the conclusion of every sports season, each varsity program will recognize one student-athlete as their RESPECT Award honoree. RESPECT Award recipients have distinguished themselves as an integral member of the team, their institution and community by upholding the values of Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Service, Pride, Excellence, Collaboration and Trust. The RESPECT Award recognizes the intangible traits a student-athlete possesses that exemplify great character and encourages inclusiveness and a positive culture.

 

2022 CCIW All-Conference Swimmers & Divers

All-conference designation is given to student-athletes who finished in the top 3 in individual events and the first place finishers in the relays at the CCIW Championships.
