  • Location: Decatur, Illinois - Griswold Center
  • Records: Carthage 6-1 (2-0 CCIW), Millikin 6-4 (0-3 CCIW)

How it Happened
  • Each team traded bucket for bucket early on until back-to-back long range buckets from Colton Sigel and Julian Campbell put the Firebirds up five.
  • After the Big Blue cut the deficit to 25-20, a layup from Anthony Bernero and a jumper in the paint from Antuan Nesbitt extended the advantage to seven with under five minutes left in the first half.
  • Millikin made it a four-point game with a layup however, Tanner Lamb answered on the following possession with a three pointer.
  • The Firebirds headed into halftime ahead 37-29.
  • With momentum on their side, Carthage pushed their lead to 13, sparked by a steal and layup from Colton Sigel
  • Following a dunk from Fillip Bulatovic, Millikin whittled the lead down to three with under four minutes left to play. The home team added a layup shrinking the Carthage advantage to one at 66-65.
  • Out of a timeout Campbell added a bucket in the paint, moving the score to 68-65 in favor of the Firebirds.
  • Millikin got within one with a layup, but Sigel once again hit two clutch free throws for Carthage to come away with the victory.

High Flyers

Coachs Remarks

"Another exciting CCIW game that came down to the last possession! So proud of our effort on the defensive end of the floor, especially in the last few possessions. Colton Sigel hit two more clutch free throws, and we got the stop needed to secure the win!

Both teams did a nice job of taking the other out of their comfort zone. AJ Johnson and Antuan Nesbitt were outstanding defensively on the perimeter, and Anthony Bernero battled in the post. We had way too many unforced turnovers that we need to fix before Augustana next Saturday.

I'm proud of this group!! They kept their composure late on the road and won another close game."
