Firebirds Fall in Season Opener

KENOSHA, Wis.— The Carthage College men's basketball team fell to Whitman in non-conference action 75-67 to open the season at Tarble Arena. 

The Basics
  • Final score: Whitman 75 - Carthage 67
  • Location: Kenosha, Wisconsin - Tarble Arena
  • Records: Whitman (1-0), Carthage (0-1)
 
How it Happened 
  • In the first half, Whitman was up three until a layup by Anthony Bernero made it 17-16. 
  • Later, back-to-back layups from Julian Campbell put the Firebirds ahead by five. 
  • The Blues took a one-point margin into halftime. 
  • In the second half, Fillip Bulatovic made a jumper tying it at 32. 
  • The visitors responded with a 21-4 run with 12:45 left in the half. 
  • Although a dunk from Antuan Nesbitt shrank the deficit to 11, Whitman won the game 75-67. 
 
High Flyers
  • Fillip Bulatovic led the Firebirds in points and rebounds with 21 and seven. Bulatovic eclipsed 400 career rebounds in the contest. 
  • First-year center Julian Campbell finished his debut at Carthage with 14 points and five rebounds. 
  • Antuan Nesbitt added 13 points and a team-best five assists.
