Hot First Half Shooting Gives Firebirds Home Victory over Red Hawks

KENOSHA, Wis.— In their last non-conference game before starting conference play, the Carthage College men's basketball team defeated Ripon 89-69 on Tuesday night. 


The Basics
 
  • Final score: Carthage 89 - Ripon 69
  • Location: Kenosha, Wisconsin - Tarble Arena
  • Records: Carthage (4-1), Ripon (3-3)
 
 
How it Happened 
  • The Firebirds came out of the gate with a 16-point lead as AJ Johnson dialed in a long-range three-pointer. 
  • Back-to-back three-pointers from Antuan Nesbitt and Tanner Lamb made it 34-12 with 10 minutes left. 
  • Later a layup from Johnson and a bucket from Nesbitt made it 47-23 as Carthage headed into halftime with a 19-point lead. 
  • Ripon battled back in the second half, getting it to 10 with a lone free throw. 
  • Six-straight points from Johnson put the home team back ahead 73-54. 
  • With 5:05 left, Fillip Bulatovic added another three-pointer making the score 81-59 as Carthage cruised to the 89-69 victory. 

 
High Flyers
  • For the second-straight game, AJ Johnson led the Firebirds in points with 24. Johnson shot 10-14 from the field and grabbed five rebounds. 
  • Fillip Bulatovic added 20 points and nearly missed a double-double on the day finishing with nine rebounds. Bulatovic is now five points shy of 1,000 career points. 
  • Antuan Nesbitt poured in 17 points, a team-best six assists, and five rebounds. 
  • The Firebird offense shot 19-25 from the floor and 6-8 from long range in the first half.
