Carthage Drops Road Matchup to Wisconsin Lutheran

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Carthage Firebirds women's basketball team scored a season-high 51 points tonight, but the team fell short in a 71-51 loss to Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 


The Basics
 
  • Final score: Wisconsin Lutheran 71, Carthage 51. 
  • Location: Time of Grace Center - Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 
  • Records: Carthage 0-3, Wisconsin Lutheran 2-1. 

How it Happened 
 
  • Carthage took its first lead of the game with 8:18 remaining in the first quarter after Marianna Morrissey converted on two chances from the charity stripe. 
  • Alyssa Orozco drilled a three-pointer off of a pass from Ayanna Ester to give the Firebirds an early 10-7 advantage. 
  • The Firebirds led 15-12 at the end of the first quarter. 
  • Wisconsin Lutheran's Mack Hogenson drilled three three-pointers in a three-minute span to give WLC a seven point lead. 
  • The Warriors scored a pair of baskets late in the second quarter to give WLC a 12 point lead going into halftime. 
  • The two teams traded baskets midway through the third quarter, with Wisconsin Lutheran leading 41-28 at the 4:55 mark. 
  • An Ally Gough three-pointer for the Warriors extended the lead to 54-22 going into the final quarter of play; the 22-point lead was the largest for Wisconsin Lutheran up to that point. 
  • Carthage and Wisconsin Lutheran once again traded buckets, but Carthage was able to trim the Warrior lead to 16 at the 5:26 mark courtesy of two made free throws by Bridget Barrett
  • Wisconsin Lutheran went on a 9-3 run before Alyssa Orozco hit her second three-point shot of the night. 
  • The Warriors salted down the clock and came away with a 20-point win in Milwaukee, winning 71-51.

High Flyers
 
  • Sophomore forward Marianna Morrissey had an impressive game, putting up 13 points and eight rebounds. The 13 points and eight rebounds are each a career-best for a single game for Morrissey. 
  • Junior forward Bridget Barrett hauled in six rebounds to go along with five points and three steals. 
  • Junior guard Lauren Knight played a balanced game, scoring eight while dishing out four assists and collecting four rebounds. 
  • First-first year forward Jessie Pakaski played in her first game and collected her first rebound as a Firebird.

  • The Firebirds will play their home opener at Tarble Arena against Lawrence University on Friday, November 18 beginning at 7 p.m.
