Swim and Dive Competes against Illinois Wesleyan at Home

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College women's swimming and diving team fell to Illinois Wesleyan 147-140 at home on Saturday. 

The Firebirds were led by Jordyn Bloode who won the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard individual medley then took second in the 200-yard backstroke. Grace Norman took first in the 100-yard butterfly and took second in the 100-yard breaststroke. Maria Gutzweiler won the 50-yard freestyle while coming in third in the 100-yard freestyle event. Izzy Bertaud and Elise Merucci both took second in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly respectively while Emma Roche added a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. 

In relay events, the team of Gutzweiler, Norman, Bertaud, and Jordyn Kaplan clocked a second-place time of 1:53.20. Later in the meet, Ashleigh Espinoza, Merucci, Norman, and Bloode finished in second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay. 

In diving events, Kaycee Siears and Patricia Banasik took the top two spots in the one-meter and three-meter events respectively. 

The Firebirds will return to the pool on Friday, January 28 for the Wisconsin Private Championship with diving events taking place on Friday followed by the swim events on Saturday, January 29.
